Dimpsey Yonder Shepherd Hut

Sleeps 2 En suite Kitchen Wood-Fired Hot Tub

HUT DESCRIPTION

In a nutshell…

A gorgeously appointed double shepherd hut stay space offering kitchen, en-suite and bedroom with copper bateau bath at the foot of the bed and a stargazer window over it.

Perfectly settled into a small private copse of woodland, the luxurious interior leads out to a wilder outside with your own private woodfired hottub and woodfired garden oven and plenty of space to watch the deer and pheasants amble past your door.

Starting from £245 per night, this truly is the place to relax and recharge.

Dimpsey has always been known for high-end luxury in a field and we thought long and hard before we added a second shepherd hut, but Blackdown’s Brace hut was too much too resist.

Our vision for this project was ‘indulgent wild’ – indulgent luxury interior, but maintaining the wildness of the outdoors and letting both our shepherd huts have their very own space, well away from each other.

So Dimpsey Yonder Shepherd’s Hut is set in it’s own small copse with a hard standing parking area set slightly away from your stay place. We often see deer and wildlife in these fields so it is a perfect haven to escape to.

The front shepherd hut is 18 feet long with the second shepherd hut being 16 foot long shepherd hut and connected by an interior walkway.

In the front hut, you have double glass panelled doors looking out on the glorious Blackdown Hills. This shepherd hut houses the kitchen, eating area and comfy seating and a gorgeous bathroom with mains drainage loo and a bespoke copper lined shower.

The rear hut (we like to call it the boudoir!) is a beautifully appointed bedroom, with a luxurious free-standing bed from Naturalmat and a William Holland Bath standing opposite the end of the bed. A single door leads out onto the decking, which curves round to the woodfired hot-tub platform.

Dimpsey Slumber Space

The feedback on our Naturalmat bed in the Dimpsey Hither Hut we have been running since 2015 has been so good, that they were commissioned to make a bespoke bed especially for this hut, the headboard follows the curve of the roof and the whole space has been set up for comfort. Lay in your bed and gaze at the stars above through the curved roof panel.

With Owen Barry sheepskins on the floor and Tom Raffield lighting setting the mood for you, we think you’ll be relaxed to the max in the boudoir.

Opposite your bed, you’ll find a raised platform with sunken lights and a William Holland slipper bath – total indulgence and a real hit with guests.

Dimpsey Dining

Blackdown made a bespoke oak table for the shepherd hut and the bistro chairs make an excellent area for the two of you to dine in, or you can go out to the award winning Candlelight Inn, just a mile away and superb food. If you dine in, you’ll be sitting opposite the woodburner and looking out through the doors at the gentle wild outside.

We have an electric hob, fridge and small belfast sink within the hut – and we supply a starter pack of tea, coffee and sugar. The copper topped kitchen is a real treat and is perfect for couples dining in.

All essential utensils and crockery are provided – there’s a list in the Welcome Pack.

We can also provide food to cook on the firepit upon request and have also provided Places to Eat recommendations on the site.

Dimpsey Wild

Our Dimpsey Yonder hut is set in a private space with only the fields and animals for company, the doors lead directly out onto the decking where you will find seating, and our Hikki woodfired hottub, such a hit with all our guests.

The wood-fired hot-tub is for your exclusive use – perfect for soaking in whilst gazing up at the stars. We send you a video to help you work the wood-fired hot-tub when you arrive and believe us, you’ll love it!

The Dimpsey Welcome Tea Tray

The Dimpsey welcome tea tray will be waiting for you on arrival with a little sweet treat for you – there’s nothing better than a cuppa when you arrive!

Dimpsey Romance – Wood-fired log burners

There’s nothing better than a real fire so inside the Dimpsey hut there is a wood burning stove with a constant supply of wood to keep you toasty and warm – we don’t charge extra for this – it’s included in the price. You also have a full central heating system.

Dimpsey Showers and more

You have a shower room and a luxury slipper bath.  We provide towels, a hair dryer and a starter selection of luxury shower treats. There’s plenty of room in the shower and there is also a copper washbasin and flushing loo (no compost loos!).

ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

Where is Dimpsey based?
We’re based near Combe St Nicholas on the Somerset/Devon border, about half a mile from the A303. We have the advantage of being down a beautiful country lane and easy to find. Our farm is around 30 acres, was listed in the Domesday book and is home to Dexter Cattle, Jacob sheep and Tamworth pigs – so lots of animals and tractors to see. Dimpsey Hither Hut is located in Hither Orchard, so named as it has been replanted on the same spot as the orchard which served the farm for hundreds of years previously. Dimpsey Yonder Hut is over two fields away in its own private copse and overlooks Castlemoor, where a veritable nature safari awaits you during your stay! Our newest addition, Dimpsey Dapple stands in its own field with a starry expanse of sky soaring above it – totally magical, especially when viewed from a deep bath in the outdoor bathroom.
Are the huts private with their own hot tub?
Our shepherd huts are each set in their own field and are completely private. Each comes with it’s own wood-fired hot tub or outdoor bath, firepit and outdoor pizza oven.
What is your deposit and cancellation policy?
You pay 25% deposit on booking and 75% 4 weeks before your stay. If you cancel more than 4 weeks before your stay, the cancellation fee is 25% of your booking cost unless you rebook. If you cancel within 4 weeks of your stay, the cancellation is 100% of your holiday cost unless we manage to rebook your dates. We strongly encourage everyone to take out short trip travel insurance so that you are covered if you have to cancel for an insured reason – prices start around £20 for a weekend.
Arrival and departure times
The hut will be ready and waiting for you to arrive any time after 3pm for the Dimpsey Hither, 4.30pm for the Dimpsey Yonder and 330pm for Dimpsey Dapple – late arrivals are not a problem for us – so if you need to complete a day’s work and then drive here, just let us know and we’ll make sure everything’s ready for your arrival time. We understand that there is nothing worse than rushing around when you have to leave early so you don’t have to leave your Dimpsey stay until 11am for Dimpsey Hither, 12pm for Dimpsey Yonder and 1030am for Dimpsey Dapple on the day of departure.
What happens after I have booked?
When you book you will get a confirmation email and a Dimpsey Shepherd Hut welcome pack which will tell you about what to bring, how to get here and places to visit.

What is there in the immediate area?
The nearest small towns are Chard and Ilminster, with Taunton (20 minutes) and Exeter (35 minutes) being the larger towns in the vicinity. The country lanes are perfect for walking and biking and the nearby Neroche woods offers access to a long walking, riding and cycle path. We’re about 30 minutes from Lyme Regis and the coastal paths if you fancy venturing out. In addition, this particular area of the Blackdown presents some stunning skies and opportunities for stargazing, the hot tub being a perfect place to view from.
Can I buy food from the farm?
Yes you can, when you book you can add a breakfast hamper, sausages, burgers, steak and eggs, or email us if you decide post-booking. The meat is all from our small farm and we use local produce and suppliers. We can also cater for other food preferences. We allow Assistance Dogs as part of a booking, but please do talk to us first, we ask that you leave other doggy friends at home please.
What about Dimpsey's sustainability?
Our shepherds huts were made less than 10 minutes away from our farm by Blackdown Shepherd Huts, we try wherever possible to use local suppliers or vintage pieces. We provide recycling facilities and we also compost all of your food waste. We grow herbs and some veg outside the shepherd’s hut for your use and if you order meat from our farm, your food miles can be measured in feet!

What if there's a lockdown again?
If there is a government lockdown in force and you can’t get here or we are unable to provide your break, then we will move your break to an alternative date or refund for you, just as we did with booked guests in the last lockdowns. The Post Office offers a really cost effective travel insurance policy which can cover you (depending on circumstances) in the case of illness preventing your trip.
Are you dog friendly?
Sorry, we aren’t so ask that you leave dogs at home please.
Can I come on my own?
Of course, we’re all about escaping the busy and our solo travellers enjoy all the luxuries that the shepherd huts have to offer, the retreat-like peace and love that they can be totally secure in the knowledge that we’re around to help if needed.
The perfect setting for the perfect proposal. We will be back to celebrate in years to come.
