PRESS RELEASE

Dimpsey Glamping Perfect Valentine’s Retreat

Dimpsey Glamping in Somerset has been a place of romance and proposals for several visitors and is described as a place of ‘magic’ by many who stay there.

The 5* luxury retreat is run by Somerset couple Emma and Andrew Warren, is described as “an all-in experience helping busy people to get some quality time together”. Located at the foot of the Blackdown Hills, Dimpsey is a luxury couple’s retreat, complete with private hot tub, firepit, and outdoor kitchen.

Award-winning Dimpsey Glamping is based on Emma and Andrew’s small farm in Somerset, which is shared with Dexter cows, Jacob and Zwartble sheep and a few chickens and a goose called George.

Emma says: “The idea of the glamping experience is to chill out and reconnect with each other, and we have geared everything around making that happen – so from relaxing music to snuggly beds, hearing the owls hoot at night and watching the animals during the day, we’ve totally got intimate chill out covered for couples who want a chance to rekindle their romance.

“We’ve had proposals at the hut – one last Valentine’s Day, and people come away from it saying they feel rejuvenated, relaxed and reconnected. That’s our aim – to give people the chance to rediscover the purpose in their relationships.”

The hut is designed and kitted out to feel like a luxury hotel, and Emma and Andrew always go the extra mile to make it really comfortable, ensuring that all the styling is from British designers and adding in extra little treats to delight visitors.

The hut, designed and created by Blackdown Shepherd Huts, is 18 feet long and contains a double bed, seating, kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and flushing toilet. Visitors can stay from £135 per night for two adults and this includes logs for the woodburner and the firepit, a welcome tea tray and eggs, bacon, butter, milk and bread for a hearty first morning breakfast. Romantic additions can be brought in to create that truly special occasion, as well as vouchers for one or two night stays.

Here at Dimpsey, we love to help people create special moments in their life – sometimes we do that just by sharing the peace and the views that our shepherd’s hut affords and other times we are privileged to get even more involved. From birthday flowers to hidden presents to cakes and surprises, we love being part of the secret squirrel planning that goes on.  Every occasion is special and often a number of our local friends help us out too, so as our lovely guests suggested that we could share this one, we thought it might be a good time to recognise them and say a big thank you.

So, it all started with a response to our booking confirmation for a Canopy & Stars guest – asking if we could help out with planning a proposal, but with a twist as our guest wanted a gift in the shepherd hut on arrival, which would actually say “Will you marry me?” – so we put our plotting heads on and came up with a few suggestions and the chosen gift was a handmade Harvest Mug from nearby Barrington Pottery. We love Paul and Marion’s pieces and have quite a few in our collection, so it was lovely to be able to work with them.  They were quite happy to produce a commissioned item and our guest approved the design.  I have to admit to a slight worry when I knew the pot was in the kiln – but Paul & Marion kept us informed and we took delivery of the mug on the appointed day.

Our guest also wanted some flowers – so we worked with Cottage Flowers in Ilminster and armed with the information on flower colours and types from our guest, we decided on a small harvest posy to for the Harvest Mug and then a larger bouquet of lilies and seasonal flowers. We picked the flowers up late morning, ready for our guest arrival at 3pm – as you can see from the photo, Cottage Flowers did us proud.

Finally, the finishing touches were champagne and chocolates of course. The Somerset sparkling wine was from a local vineyard a few miles away and one of our favourites – Wayford Vineyard – and is always well received by our guests.

We’re very happy to report that the lucky lady said yes – and here’s what they had to say in their review on the Canopy & Stars site :-

“Well what can I say , this was a stay with a difference, the idea was I was going to ask my partner to marry me in a special way , Emma was at hand right from the start to find the ideal way to do this. She had a jug made with a special message on it , supplied flowers bubbly and chocolates and it all went to plan , the hut itself was brilliant nice location and well setup and Emma was on hand for everything we needed , nothing was too much trouble even on her birthday

Thanks Em”

Dimpsey Glamping has struck gold again, winning the category of Glamping and Alternative Accommodation at the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards held at Somerset County Cricket Club last night. Dimpsey also won the 2016 award.

After 6 months of assessing evidence and judging by a panel of experts, the winners were announced by Laura Rawlings from BBC Radio Bristol, who was joined on stage by Marcus Trescothick MBE.
The winners were all presented with individually crafted hand inscribed awards by Will Shakspeare, from Shakspeare Glass in Langport.

Somerset based organiser Nell Barrington said: “These awards showcase the best that Somerset, Bristol and Bath have to offer visitors; from food and drink to attractions, experiences, accommodation and new for this year, guided tours. I hope that as many as possible can go on to win in the South West and then VisitEngland Awards, to raise the profile of this magnificent area.”

Dimpsey Glamping is a high-end shepherd hut accommodation located on a farm at the foot of the Blackdown Hills in Chard. Dimpsey has been up and running since 2014 and boasts a hot tub, outdoor kitchen and luxury living space. Created by Blackdown Shepherd Huts, and nurtured by owners Emma and Andrew Warren, Dimpsey has gone from strength to strength as a luxury couple’s retreat, with year-round bookings.

Emma says: ‘To win gold is a real accolade and testament to the hard work we put in to make Dimpsey the very best glamping experience possible. We are small, but perfectly formed, and are always looking to improve what we do. I have a great team, and we love our guests – their experience and feedback is everything. Thank you to Booking.com who sponsored this award.’

Dimpsey will now be fast-tracked into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2018 and then possibly on to the National Visit England Awards later in 2018.

As the nights draw closer and the very first few leaves start to drop from the trees, you can just start to feel a little chill in the air in the evening here at Dimpsey Glamping. I always feel that with each season Dimpsey comes to life with it’s very own sense of comforting magic. Autumn is no exception, with the nip in the air, the deep golden sunsets, the bronze and copper leaves as they change from the lush summer vibrant green and the stars shining brightly as the sky becomes clearer at night. All these things herald the start of Autumn.

The Dimpsey Glamping Shepherd’s Hut is built to last. And as the oak cladding changes colour, just as the leaves do at this time of year, the hut ages into a majestic dwelling nestled in the Blackdown Hills that is warm and cosy yet full of whimsy and luxury.

So next time you visit Dimpsey in the Autumn time, why not spend some time just enjoying all the wonder and colour this season brings. Light the campfire, watch the stars, take a dip in the woodfired hot tub or cook a meal in our outdoor kitchen. Autumn is here….

Whether you want a quick bite to eat or a full Sunday Roast and you enjoy watching the world go by, the Quantock Belle Dining Train is a must! Not only do you get to indulge in good food but also a lovely view as you travel from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead and back, plus a constant waiter service for tea or coffee.

Throughout the transition between Summer and Autumn, we definitely suggest walking or cycling around the Blackdown Hills. The Blackdown Hills AONB is beautiful at all times of the year, but there is nothing quite like walking or cycling through the leaves that have just started to fall, listening to the birds and wind rustling through the branches. To make a complete day out of it, why not take a picnic with you and relax with the outstanding natural beauty that the Blackdown Hills has to offer, we can even help you prepare your picnic.

Nothing gently whispers in your ear ‘relaxation’ like a hot tub, so you can imagine how delighted we are at Dimpsey Glamping to have our very own woodfired hot tub. Just like the rest of your Dimpsey Glamping experience, our hot tub is there to help you wind down, chill out and make your stay at Dimpsey a peaceful, idyllic getaway. But what makes our hot tub so different and so special?

Our hot tub comes from the luxurious Swedish Company Hikki who bring their inspiration from not only Swedish relaxation methods but also Native American. Hikki’s wonderful difference to their hot tubs is that they are woodfired hot tubs and not electricity powered. Making their hot tubs more natural and at one with the surroundings which seemed a perfect fit as an addition to our shepherd’s hut and the whole Dimpsey Glamping retreat.

The hot tub holds up to 600L of water, so you can start heating up woodfired hot tub and then start prepping your dinner. Our hot tub is next to our beautiful outdoor kitchen, so you can prepare, cook and eat a delicious homemade meal and by the time you have cooked and eaten, you will be able to float your stresses away. A stay at Dimpsey Glamping isn’t just a place to lay your head at night. We want our guests to feel relaxed and pampered and that’s why we provide a full luxury retreat experience.

The Dimpsey Shepherd’s Hut not only has a woodfired hot tub (more about that next week!) but also a functional outdoor kitchen.

The kitchen was designed by the lovely people over at Blackdown Shepherd Huts who also made the Dimpsey Hut. They based the shape of the outdoor kitchen on the shape of the hut so it would blend in and to make blend in even more, they even used the materials including green oak, which will beautifully weather over time.

The outdoor kitchen provides space, cover, a prepping area, sink, table and woodfired garden oven from The Garden Oven Company and we always have logs to burn on hand.

The most popular food that guests cook in our outdoor kitchen is pizza, chicken and potato dishes, but you can cook anything you like in the oven. We can even provide recipe baskets for our guests that include everything you need to make the perfect romantic meal under the stars. Not only that, but we can also make you freshly made pizza dough and provide steak, sausages, beef and lamb directly from our own farm. Around the hut you will find thyme, sage, chives, mint and rosemary growing, so you can help yourself to fresh organic herbs to add to your meals too.

Dimpsey is all about rest and relaxation, but we also know our guests like to keep fit and embrace the great outdoors. Dimpsey is perfectly placed for those who love to walk and cycle. Cycle routes are in abundance in the magnificent hills of the Blackdowns.

The Blackdown Hills have excellent on-road cycling on mainly quiet country lanes. For reasonably fit and experienced cyclists, the trails are a perfect way to spend a day getting out and about and exploring Dimpsey’s neighbouring sites. Some cyclists have noted some challenging hill climbs, but they are so worth it for the amazing views and exhilarating downhill stretches.

Imagine a day with a breakfast cooked in the purpose built outdoor kitchen, then a cycle route that we can help with, accompanied by a packed lunch that we can make for you to take with you, real fresh air as you whizz up and down the rolling hills, spotting birds and wildlife, and then coming on back to the fantastic hot tub, which you can fire up whilst your tea is cooking, and relaxing inside or outside the hut with a home-cooked meal! Perfection!

These are the recommended cycle routes in the area: http://www.blackdownhillsaonb.org.uk/Routes.html

Glamping and cycling are a match made in the Blackdown Hills!

We set out to provide…an inspiring, luxury stay place where you can see great places, eat great food, find cool stuff and chill out…

When we first decided that we wanted to offer a Stay Place on our little farm in the Blackdown Hills, we sat down and had a good old think about what we liked and disliked about staying away from home – and the vagaries of staying a field.  With two boys in the family, we do spend time camping and staying in fields – but as we also run two businesses between us, hubby & I escape every now and again to a luxury hotel here and there – our current favourite being www.babingtonhouse.co.uk

So, for us glamorous camping (Glamping) was definitely the way to go – and we decided that we would try and create a Babington-style place in a field – with high end accommodation and interiors. A place where you can get away from it all and also be inspired by the things you see and use whilst here.

Next we needed to decide exactly what sort of Glamping we wanted to offer – yurts, bell tents, huts, log cabins???  A long list of options was considered, but in the end we decided to go for something that would suit the style of our 500 year old farm, which was not weather dependent and would allow us to put together a self-contained Luxury Stay Place.  So a Shepherd’s Hut was the solution for us.

When we started looking at huts, we found quite a few manufacturers and looked at a number of them.  All of them had different things to offer and we were really impressed by different elements of each of the businesses we looked at, but we were particularly looking for a high end bespoke solution, so in the end we went with www.blackdownshepherdhuts.co.uk.  They are based not far from us and really liked the concept of what we were trying to do.  Since we placed the order with them we have been really impressed with their innovation and customer service – so much so that we are working with them on other projects now!

So we had our aim – create an Inspiring Luxury Stay Place, and we had the space to do it in – what was next??

Styling the Interior…

Somewhere along the line, we all do some, if not all, of the above when we’re on holiday.  These became our watchwords and informed a lot of our decisions along the way – even when thinking about things like – Which plug sockets to put in the hut?? (At the moment they’re copper and made in the UK) – and the bed (it’s got to fold away into the wall so you don’t have to assemble it every day).  Thanks to the www.blackdownshepherdhuts.co.uk team we’ve achieved more of our wish list than we ever thought possible!

So…cool stuff – we started talking to UK designers about pieces for the hut and have carefully selected what we want to put in there – as well as designing things like the cushions ourselves.  We’ve also sourced some quirky vintage pieces to add to the character that the Hut has become. We’ll be changing the hut style as we go – as well as encouraging designers to come and stay there for inspiration, so hopefully we’ll hit the cool stuff target soon.

Great food…we’re real foodies, so we’ve listed our recommendations for great places in the area and we will be adding more.  We’re lucky enough to be near some really great butchers and farm shops – and in addition we can supply meat from the farm, as well as picnics – a real gourmet break if you so wish!

What we want for you…

Chill out…

We want you to have a great time when you come to stay with us – and we’ve geared everything around making that happen – so from relaxing music to snuggly beds, hearing the owls hoot at night and watching the animals during the day, we think we might have chill out covered.

However, if you would like to get a bit more active and do a course, some sightseeing or just a bit of walking around the lanes – we can arrange most things to suit, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
