PRESS RELEASE

Dimpsey Glamping Perfect Valentine’s Retreat

Dimpsey Glamping in Somerset has been a place of romance and proposals for several visitors and is described as a place of ‘magic’ by many who stay there.

The 5* luxury retreat is run by Somerset couple Emma and Andrew Warren, is described as “an all-in experience helping busy people to get some quality time together”. Located at the foot of the Blackdown Hills, Dimpsey is a luxury couple’s retreat, complete with private hot tub, firepit, and outdoor kitchen.

Award-winning Dimpsey Glamping is based on Emma and Andrew’s small farm in Somerset, which is shared with Dexter cows, Jacob and Zwartble sheep and a few chickens and a goose called George.

Emma says: “The idea of the glamping experience is to chill out and reconnect with each other, and we have geared everything around making that happen – so from relaxing music to snuggly beds, hearing the owls hoot at night and watching the animals during the day, we’ve totally got intimate chill out covered for couples who want a chance to rekindle their romance.

“We’ve had proposals at the hut – one last Valentine’s Day, and people come away from it saying they feel rejuvenated, relaxed and reconnected. That’s our aim – to give people the chance to rediscover the purpose in their relationships.”

The hut is designed and kitted out to feel like a luxury hotel, and Emma and Andrew always go the extra mile to make it really comfortable, ensuring that all the styling is from British designers and adding in extra little treats to delight visitors.

The hut, designed and created by Blackdown Shepherd Huts, is 18 feet long and contains a double bed, seating, kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and flushing toilet. Visitors can stay from £135 per night for two adults and this includes logs for the woodburner and the firepit, a welcome tea tray and eggs, bacon, butter, milk and bread for a hearty first morning breakfast. Romantic additions can be brought in to create that truly special occasion, as well as vouchers for one or two night stays.

Here at Dimpsey, we love to help people create special moments in their life – sometimes we do that just by sharing the peace and the views that our shepherd’s hut affords and other times we are privileged to get even more involved. From birthday flowers to hidden presents to cakes and surprises, we love being part of the secret squirrel planning that goes on.  Every occasion is special and often a number of our local friends help us out too, so as our lovely guests suggested that we could share this one, we thought it might be a good time to recognise them and say a big thank you.

So, it all started with a response to our booking confirmation for a Canopy & Stars guest – asking if we could help out with planning a proposal, but with a twist as our guest wanted a gift in the shepherd hut on arrival, which would actually say “Will you marry me?” – so we put our plotting heads on and came up with a few suggestions and the chosen gift was a handmade Harvest Mug from nearby Barrington Pottery. We love Paul and Marion’s pieces and have quite a few in our collection, so it was lovely to be able to work with them.  They were quite happy to produce a commissioned item and our guest approved the design.  I have to admit to a slight worry when I knew the pot was in the kiln – but Paul & Marion kept us informed and we took delivery of the mug on the appointed day.

Our guest also wanted some flowers – so we worked with Cottage Flowers in Ilminster and armed with the information on flower colours and types from our guest, we decided on a small harvest posy to for the Harvest Mug and then a larger bouquet of lilies and seasonal flowers. We picked the flowers up late morning, ready for our guest arrival at 3pm – as you can see from the photo, Cottage Flowers did us proud.

Finally, the finishing touches were champagne and chocolates of course. The Somerset sparkling wine was from a local vineyard a few miles away and one of our favourites – Wayford Vineyard – and is always well received by our guests.

We’re very happy to report that the lucky lady said yes – and here’s what they had to say in their review on the Canopy & Stars site :-

“Well what can I say , this was a stay with a difference, the idea was I was going to ask my partner to marry me in a special way , Emma was at hand right from the start to find the ideal way to do this. She had a jug made with a special message on it , supplied flowers bubbly and chocolates and it all went to plan , the hut itself was brilliant nice location and well setup and Emma was on hand for everything we needed , nothing was too much trouble even on her birthday

Thanks Em”

As the nights draw closer and the very first few leaves start to drop from the trees, you can just start to feel a little chill in the air in the evening here at Dimpsey Glamping. I always feel that with each season Dimpsey comes to life with it’s very own sense of comforting magic. Autumn is no exception, with the nip in the air, the deep golden sunsets, the bronze and copper leaves as they change from the lush summer vibrant green and the stars shining brightly as the sky becomes clearer at night. All these things herald the start of Autumn.

The Dimpsey Glamping Shepherd’s Hut is built to last. And as the oak cladding changes colour, just as the leaves do at this time of year, the hut ages into a majestic dwelling nestled in the Blackdown Hills that is warm and cosy yet full of whimsy and luxury.

So next time you visit Dimpsey in the Autumn time, why not spend some time just enjoying all the wonder and colour this season brings. Light the campfire, watch the stars, take a dip in the woodfired hot tub or cook a meal in our outdoor kitchen. Autumn is here….

Although Summer is starting to slowly drift away, it doesn’t mean the that relaxing holiday time is at an end. At Dimpsey Glamping, no matter what time of the year it is, there is always something to enjoy and ways to let your stresses slip away.

We are proud to be based in the Blackdown Hills, and so now that the nights are starting to draw in quicker, the end of Summer is the perfect time to relax under the stars, and with our stargazing maps this couldn’t be any easier.

But why not make a complete romantic evening out of it? Nothing beats cooking a homemade meal with fresh produce in our Outdoor Kitchen, and then unwinding in our Wood Fired Hot Tub

Whether you want a quick bite to eat or a full Sunday Roast and you enjoy watching the world go by, the Quantock Belle Dining Train is a must! Not only do you get to indulge in good food but also a lovely view as you travel from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead and back, plus a constant waiter service for tea or coffee.

Throughout the transition between Summer and Autumn, we definitely suggest walking or cycling around the Blackdown Hills. The Blackdown Hills AONB is beautiful at all times of the year, but there is nothing quite like walking or cycling through the leaves that have just started to fall, listening to the birds and wind rustling through the branches. To make a complete day out of it, why not take a picnic with you and relax with the outstanding natural beauty that the Blackdown Hills has to offer, we can even help you prepare your picnic.

If the sun isn’t shining as much as you would like, don’t panic. Taunton, which is only 14 miles away from Dimpsey, is full of interesting things to do – including a Town Tour in the Museum of Somerset, ideal for those slightly duller days. The tour is filled with information about the history of Taunton, including a little meet up with the inspiration of Frankenstein!

Forde Abbey House & Gardens is just around the corner from us here at Dimpsey and is open until October.  Home to the stunning Mortlake tapestries, woven from the internationally famous Raphael cartoons, now housed in the V&A, the Abbey has a rich and varied history spanning 900 years.

From food to relaxation and from adventure to days out, there is plenty you can do, even when the Summer sun leaves us eventually.

Nothing gently whispers in your ear ‘relaxation’ like a hot tub, so you can imagine how delighted we are at Dimpsey Glamping to have our very own woodfired hot tub. Just like the rest of your Dimpsey Glamping experience, our hot tub is there to help you wind down, chill out and make your stay at Dimpsey a peaceful, idyllic getaway. But what makes our hot tub so different and so special?

Our hot tub comes from the luxurious Swedish Company Hikki who bring their inspiration from not only Swedish relaxation methods but also Native American. Hikki’s wonderful difference to their hot tubs is that they are woodfired hot tubs and not electricity powered. Making their hot tubs more natural and at one with the surroundings which seemed a perfect fit as an addition to our shepherd’s hut and the whole Dimpsey Glamping retreat.

2016 06 17 18.26.27 e1502441659289 1024x1024 - The Dimpsey Glamping Hikki Wood-Fired Hot Tub

Made from salt-water resistant aluminium and oak wood, Hikki hot tubs can hold any type of water and won’t erode, so you can be assured that our hot tub will last and be here every time you come and stay. The hot tub holds up to 600L of water, so you can start heating up woodfired hot tub and then start prepping your dinner. Our hot tub is next to our beautiful outdoor kitchen, so you can prepare, cook and eat a delicious homemade meal and by the time you have cooked and eaten, you will be able to float your stresses away. Being just over 2m long and fitting two people inside at any one time, it’s perfect for a romantic evening, just the two of you. Of course, a bottle of chilled Champagne is also the perfect companion to a night under the stars in our woodfired hot tub. Enjoy…

A stay at Dimpsey Glamping isn’t just a place to lay your head at night. We want our guests to feel relaxed and pampered and that’s why we provide a full luxury retreat experience.

The Dimpsey Shepherd’s Hut not only has a woodfired hot tub (more about that next week!) but also a functional outdoor kitchen.

The kitchen was designed by the lovely people over at Blackdown Shepherd Huts who also made the Dimpsey Hut. They based the shape of the outdoor kitchen on the shape of the hut so it would blend in and to make blend in even more, they even used the materials including green oak, which will beautifully weather over time.

The outdoor kitchen provides space, cover, a prepping area, sink, table and woodfired garden oven from The Garden Oven Company and we always have logs to burn on hand.

The most popular food that guests cook in our outdoor kitchen is pizza, chicken and potato dishes, but you can cook anything you like in the oven. We can even provide recipe baskets for our guests that include everything you need to make the perfect romantic meal under the stars. Not only that, but we can also make you freshly made pizza dough and provide steak, sausages, beef and lamb directly from our own farm. Around the hut you will find thyme, sage, chives, mint and rosemary growing, so you can help yourself to fresh organic herbs to add to your meals too.

After all that Winter brings: the snow, the sparkly lights, the festivities, the dark evenings and of course warming up around the cosy fire – Spring is here!

We have some new Spring additions at Dimpsey Glamping. We have welcomed some new members to our farm, our gorgeous laying hens, who will be providing delicious eggs for everyone. They are real characters too!

And we are very pleased to announce… the build of our brand new outdoor kitchen! We are extremely excited about this as it will give a whole new meaning to eating al fresco! New slabs are down and the joinery is already going up. Huge thanks to Blackdown Shepherd Huts for their stunning carpentry as always. Dimpsey Glamping guests will be able  to cook and eat outside in our fully working outdoor kitchen, perfect for summer relaxing and romantic evenings under the stars.

Spring brings it’s own beautiful natural bounties. The daffodils and crocuses are popping up in bloom and we have already had a few ‘blue sky warm sun’ days. It’s amazing how that warm sun but very slightly chilly breeze feeling on your face can give you a real lift in the mornings! Spring has sprung and the Dimpsey Glamping hut looks beautiful as it shines in the Springtime sun.

More updates to come as the outdoor kitchen is finished and we look forward to seeing you soon here at Dimspey Glamping.

Sometimes there are things in life which are worth sharing, and the Dimpsey hut is always delighted to share more details about something we love. And because we rate a great night’s sleep as pretty much one of the most important things in life, this is where we tell you all about our amazing mattress in Dimpsey! NaturalMat makes that cosy night’s sleep practically perfect in every way. They are a local company, and are very passionate about what they do. So here’s a little bit more about them.

Where are you located?

Topsham, Devon and Chiswick London
https://www.naturalmat.co.uk/find-us/

How long has NaturalMat been running and where do you source from?

We’ve been running since 2000. We source local materials wherever possible therefore reducing the carbon footprint and supporting regional business. Our customers are as likely to live in the city as they are in rural communities, and when people buy from us they are a genuine advocate of Naturalmat.

What are your favourite home/design magazines?

Elle Deco, 25 Beautiful Homes, English Home, EKBB, House & Garden, The World of Interiors.

Do you design bespoke products?

Every product is made by hand in Devon by skilled and passionate artisans. We believe that people, not machines, make a superior, long-lasting product. Our team of craftspeople ensure every stitch, every fibre, every tufting button and every cover is painstakingly created, teased and checked. When a mattress leaves our factory, we are confident it will deliver years of comfortable, healthy and relaxing sleep.

Added extra….

Bound up in every Naturalmat mattress is a simple promise, to give you a sublime night’s sleep on top of nature’s nest ingredients. So all our materials are 100% natural and from sustainable, Fair Trade sources. Where possible, we buy local, particularly our wool, which comes from the sheep grazing in elds just yards from our Devon factory. We hand-tease these natural fibres to ensure the ultimate in comfort and support, before crafting each mattress and topper by hand. A Naturalmat mattress takes five times as long to create as a machine-made mattress, but once you’ve experienced the supreme comfort they provide, we think you’ll agree that it’s time well spent.

Beetham Farm, where Dimpsey Glamping is located, has always had a magical connection to nature and has been enjoyed by many people over the generations such as Arthur C Clarke.

Until the age of 8, Arthur lived here at Beetham Farm and was able to enjoy the night sky every night. He then became the co-writer for ‘A Space in Odyssey’, which we like to believe was inspired by watching the stars in the same place that Dimpsey Glamping guests stay today. The stars here at Dimpsey Glamping on a clear night are stunning and we are sure this is what inspired him to start to write science fiction books.

Somerset is home to the first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in Exmoor. So the Somerset skies are world renowned for their amazing displays. We are also have the South West Observatory around 15 miles away in Taunton and the Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth which is just over 20 miles away. If you are travelling to Sidmouth to visit the observatory, why not pop into The Salty Monk for afternoon tea or an evening meal.

star map chart

February is the perfect time for stargazing in Somerset with Orion the Hunter high in the south, with Jupiter sitting above his head, and the Andromeda Galaxy in the west, the most distant object visible to the naked eye, a giant galaxy containing a trillion stars. And from horizon to horizon is the Milky Way, our own galaxy stretching in an arc.

March and April are particularly good for looking at stars however the later autumn months are the best for shooting stars.

Here at Dimpsey Glamping we are set among the Blackdown Hills which gives a spectacular backdrop to the night sky. Imagine laying in our wood fired hot tub and looking up at the stars, cloud permitting and using our stargazing guide book which comes with your stay, there is no better way in our opinion to stargaze. Your own star theatre, perfect.
